    TREASURER’S REPORT

    Transactions since the last meeting

Affiliation fees:- fees amounting to £6,873 have been received which reflects an increased DGU membership of 71 compared to last year. From this NWCGA affiliation fees amounting to almost £802 (35p per member) have to be paid.

Jubilee Plate:- additional entry fees amounting to £650 have been received bringing the total to £720. This reflects a healthy increase from last years £580.

Spring meeting:- entry fees amounting to £1,405 have been received (up from £1,160 last year). From this a hosting fee of £560 paid to Denbigh and prize vouchers to the value £550 issued of which £250 have been redeemed.

Team Handicap:- additional entry fees of £430 received bringing total to £500.

A further £70 has been paid out for redeemed vouchers issued last year.

    Bank interest:- £31 received.

Scratch Team:- £680 paid for accommodation for the Welsh inter-counties although it should be noted that this cost will not be incurred in 2025 as the event is being held at Llangollen. Additional scratch team costs incurred for balls (£135), clothing (£228) and the match at Holywell (£124).

Senior Team::- £554 paid to secure seniors inter-counties accommodation.

    Juniors:- nothing to report.

    Bank Balance and Projection

The current bank balance amounts to almost £11,358 and, based on previous years, I currently see no reason why income and expenditure should not broadly balance at the next AGM.

    DGU Seniors Report June 2024

NWCGA Seniors Scratch Open Championship @ Wrexham GC

Firstly, many thanks to our Secretary, John Hatcher, who contacted all the DGU clubs regarding courtesy for Wrexham members whilst the N. Wales Seniors Scratch Open Championship was played at Wrexham on 29th & 30th April. This is an important part of helping clubs host large Championships and thanks to Abergele, Denbigh and Llangollen who responded positively and to Maesdu who also helped out.

There course was in very good condition for the time of year, with the heavy crosswinds making both the navigation and putting very difficult indeed.

The champion golfer was Alistair Mason (Radyr) with a fine 76 & 70 gross score with Tim Saunders (Holy well) claiming the Seiko Trophy for the best N.Wales golfer with a score of 75 &76 gross.

    1. We have arranged the fixtures later this year to accommodate the new 3 x Pairs BetterBall Inter-County Matches before the Seniors inter-Counties @ Abergele on 28th July 2024.

    2. Our first full County fixture is against Dyfed (a) @ Ashburnham on Monday 1st July 2024, which will necessitate an overnight stay on the Sunday evening.

    3. The other fixtures against Shropshire & Hereford (a); Brecon (h) and Flintshire (h&a) will take place as planned and published in my last report with possible fixtures against Caernarvonshire and The Narwhals which are yet to be arranged.

    4. The Inter-Counties Seniors Championship is further South this September, in Swansea Bay, so it would be very helpful if the budget for this season could be increased to reflect the two important away fixtures in the calendar. Players fund their own petrol and subsistence but should not be expected to fund accommodation when representing the County.

The Senior squad has been strengthen again this year and with a couple of very low handicappers hopefully returning from long term injuries, competition for places is the best we have ever witnessed at Senior level.

    Martin Jones

    Juniors: No report submitted

    Jubilee Plate:

The 2nd round draw is currently out there and all seems to be going well. Those still in the competition have until 14th July to complete the round.

Should there be any queries please get in touch.

    Andy Brown

    7. Spring Meeting Report

This event was due to be held at Abergele, but due to problems caused by the weather the event was moved at short notice to Denbigh. A successful meeting was held with 70 pairs taking part.

I would like to thank Denbigh for presenting the course in good condition during such difficult times with the weather. I would also like to thank Wayne Harris for his work in setting up the event and Don Walmsley for all his help on the day of the meeting.
